The new module enables software developers and workflow vendors to calculate optimized nesting layouts for multiple PDF files on a given sheet size. As a result, they can improve material efficiency and production throughput.

Nesting plays an essential role in industrial printing, including packaging, wide-format printing, textile production and signage. To support these applications, the callas nesting module integrates easily into automated workflows and production platforms.

Many of our OEM partners build highly automated production systems. They need reliable technology components that can be integrated directly into their workflows. The new nesting module provides exactly that: an efficient and flexible nesting engine that can be integrated into existing systems.

For customers producing large numbers of print items on different substrates, efficient nesting can significantly reduce production costs. The new pdfNest module integrates easily into the systems callas OEM partners build. It also complements pdfToolbox: while pdfToolbox automates file intake and correction, pdfNest fits print items more efficiently onto each output sheet, reducing material waste.

Built for workflow integration

The nesting module fits into automated production environments. It accepts XML and/or SVG descriptions of the items you want to nest, then returns definitions of the imposed sheets in the same formats. An easy-to-use API also helps developers integrate it quickly.

Separate technology module

callas offers the nesting engine as a separate module for OEM partners. Software vendors and solution developers can integrate it into their own products or workflow platforms.

Although the module launches alongside pdfToolbox 17, the standard release does not include it. However, several new features in pdfToolbox 17, including cut line simplification, help improve nesting performance.

Availability and pricing

OEM partners can license the nesting technology module under their agreements with callas software. For details on licensing, pricing and integration, contact the callas team.
